Outpost Outfitted: Bumbling Backward

Wednesday, August 3rd, 2011

Have you ever found the most amazing and unique accessory that from the moment you saw it, you knew you had to work it into your repertoire? Yes? Us too!  Ladies and gentleman, meet the drop dead gorgeous necklace that inspired working backward to assemble this outfit.  No starting with a dress or shirt, or even a silky smooth bumble bee themed jumper; we started with this one-of-a-kind necklace from Axis of Evelyn.  How could we not?  Paired with a simple jumper, which was screaming for the woven white belt to break up the color combo, our favorite woven clutch, and some brass bangles to tie it all together, this ensemble would look at home in any of the cities featured on the Bladon Conner cubes.

Leather Black Necklace – $160

Bumble Bee Skort – $58

40′s Summer Straw Clutch – $58

White Braided Belt – $34

Brass Bangles – $14

Cubes – $30 (Handmade wooden block transfers of Chicago, New Orleans, & NYC by Bladon Conner)

Stop by the shop to see that stunner up close.

Outpost Outfitted: Heron in Flight

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011

Something about this dress reminds us of this screen print…or is it the other way around? Which came first, the heron or the dress? Either way, this vintage 70′s maxi dress evokes wings, a stroll around a lagoon, Stevie Nicks, and/or a fancy pants garden party, perhaps?  Pair it with this incredible Shades of Grey tri-tone set of vintage chains that have been given a new look.  The real showstopper is that RED raffia purse – just tuck the chain in to make it clutch and you’re off.

Axis of Evelyn 70′s Blue Flower Dress – $148

Vintage Raffia Purse – $35

Shades of Grey Tritone Collar – $86

Lagoon Screen print – $35 (2 Versions available)

Stop in the shop to see the dress in full length, more from Evelyn’s vintage collection, and other pieces from Shades of Grey.

Outpost Outfitted: Office or Evening?

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011

This vintage 50’s linen dress is from the collection of Axis of Evelyn, which we have been drooling over in the shop since she started supplying us with her treasures back in January. If only it were my size, it would now be in my collection.  The brass buckle and button details take it from simple to stunning (the buttons go down the back of the top too!), and don’t even get me started on the color. We’re mixing eras here with a 40’s clutch, which has an impeccable lining and just enough space to stash the essentials…like that little metal mesh wallet for a hidden pop of gold.  Add a 70’s necklace and a touch of new with the Laura Lombardi bracelet, and you’re set for the office a fabulous evening.

Laura Lombardi: Nest Bracelet - $80

Evans Gold Wallet - $28

Axis of Evelyn:

50′s Green Dress with Brass Buckle – $135

40′s Caramel Clutch – $70

70′s Multi Chain Necklace – $75

Stop by Post 27 to try this ensemble on and see the latest offerings from Evelyn.

Rolling out the Red Carpet for Carly

Tuesday, July 19th, 2011

I’m so thrilled to announce our newest contributor to the blog, Carly Pokornowski. Carly comes by her blogging talents honestly, which you can feast your eyes on here. At the shop, you’ll find Carly holding down the fort most Sundays. She loves architecture, bashing golf balls, Neko Case, and she’s got a fascinating eye for jewelry to boot. In fact, her tastes are so keen that she’s going to be styling, shooting and writing up a weekly fashion feature that we’re calling Outpost Outfitted. (We’re launching it tomorrow!) So glad she’s getting to give the proper love and attention to our beloved clothes and accessories, which have sadly been pretty absent from our blog until now. High fives & a big giant welcome to Carly!!

Photoshoot time. BOOM.

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

The store smells like hairspray today and there’s Amazon-beautiful models gliding around in various states of dress. Are the two related? Most definitely. Heather’s shooting our Vignettes for the event & Design Bureau magazine.

And we are open still for regular business too. So come see us, especially if you can’t come to the actual event, the Vignettes will be up for another two weeks!

You’re Invited to Vignette!

Monday, April 18th, 2011

So, what exactly is this event that’s got us all jazzed out? Well, we’re clearing out the whole store for starters, essentially becoming a gallery for the purpose of this event. On display will be a series of tableaus all tricked out with various custom furniture stuffs, vintage couture, and art. A multi-disciplinary bonanza, all local of course, all tied together through color, texture, & material.

Evelyn’s styling the live models, Steven is building furniture out of found magazines for a living room scene and Morlen is tricking out an office set-up with stripes galore. Angela & I are jamming together on the bedroom scene, which includes an installation composed with all manner of wacky found clip boards. Oh, and plus! I’m also designing, printing & assembling the event programs, all 300 of them. And miss Heather Talbert(!) is taking the photos.

So…Do you want to COME and celebrate with us this April 28th?! Have I baited you enough? Yes? Ok good, then it’s RSVP time right over here. Ready, go!

Up next this week: install shots.

*UPDATED 04/21: Sorry, guys! RSVPs are all gone!*
