New in the shop: 5×7 Books

Saturday, March 31st, 2012

Leo Burnett Design Director & Post Family member Alex Fuller no doubt has enough on his plate day to day, but on the side he also runs 5×7 Books, a line of small-run art publications. These delicate little books present quiet ideas in beautiful little packages, cleverly printed and assembled together. It’s the kind of object that speaks delicately at first but after a glance or two a deeper concept emerges, imprinting itself into your brain.

Ina Weise’s From Here to There is a 4-panel fold-out piece on French Newsprint and it is inspired by traveling, people, and the connections Ina’s made in her journeys.

A Painting in 31 Marks documents the decision-making process that goes into abstract painting. Two people, two colors, one painting. Artwork by Chicago screenprinting-artist duo Sonnenzimmer.

Both books are available at the shop now!

Who needs a Britta, have a Bincho.

Monday, November 14th, 2011

Water filtration like this? Be still my heart. Kishu Binchotan (or Bincho) is a stick of White Charcoal that purifies & softens regular ‘ol tap water to delicious effect. Named for the Kishu forests of Japan where the White Charcoal is handcrafted, it’s a fantastic way to class up the bar at your next party. Also comes in delicious-smelling hand soaps as well. By Sort Of Coal, you can snag one of these beauties right here.

Filtering directions:
1. Rinse Bincho and boil in a pot of water for 5 minutes.
2. Drain & cool
3. Fill water bottle and carefully slide the Bincho inside.
4. After two hours the water is done filtering & is ready to serve. Best when chilled.
After three months you can compost your Bincho instead of throwing it away.

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

New product obsession-time! The Blink Mirrors by Kaiju Studios & Skyline Design. Designs are silk-screened onto the glass, creating everything from organic playful patterns to more structure architectural forms. Available in a circle or square, the mirrors are made right here in the good old U. S. of A. They look stunning in a series, though I could also see one living happily tucked in an interesting little hallway crevice or in a guest bath. Check ‘em out!

Outpost Outfitted: Pendleton Portland

Wednesday, September 21st, 2011

Two parts frei plus one part brand-spankin-new Pendleton Portland Collection, 2 shakes of vintage, and a splash of local jewelry designers equals too much to choose from for just one look! Oh yes, the Pendleton Portland Collection is here and it is gorgeous. That wool shift on the left is just the beginning:  there’s wool blazers with removable shearling collars, unisex sweaters, cozy wool pants, jacquard skirts, and more. Pendleton Woolen Mills, a century-old company in the Pacific Northwest that began by making blankets for Native Americans, has teamed up with Portland designers to create the Portland Collection.  The pieces were inspired by the Pendleton archives of prints and fabrics, and are all made in the USA. Vintage aesthetic with a modern touch? The line feels right at home in Post 27.  We couldn’t resist bringing you another version of frei’s Circle Skirt and Square Tank that we showed you here, which is now engulfed in the silk tencel of the Super Nomad Wrap (on right.) We currently have only one left in the shop!

On Left:

Pendleton Portland Collection Black Jacquard Shift Dress – $295

Coming Soon: frei

Monday, August 22nd, 2011

Mixing up our space once again and this time we’re getting a new roommate: fashion designer Annie Novotny! It’s not often this kind of collaboration comes along, one so natural and well-suited. It’s really the ultimate marriage of style + craft for us and we could not be more excited. It’s already almost ready too! Over the last couple of weeks Annie’s been moving her clothing line, frei, out of her Pilsen studio and right into the front of our shop. (And she’s done this with a sprained ankle no less!) So now when you come by, you’ll be able to see and interact with Annie as she stitches together her delicious threads. Come celebrate with us on September 8th to welcome frei and see the unveiling of the Fall 2011 Collection, available exclusively at Post 27. And for more behind-the-scenes of the collection, hop the frei blog.
