Longman & Eagle in the News

Actual marrow bones—roasted and filled with a sweet onion jam, heaven.

So thrilled for our friends at Longman & Eagle, in addition to winning a Michelin Star, they’ve scored a spot on GQ’s top 10 restaurants of 2010! And we can barely contain ourselves awaiting the opening of their new Inn, due any day now. Think Ace Hotel, but smaller with an urban-rustic vibe that’s the very essence of Chicago’s design scene. Luckily we’ve got some pictures of the interiors to tide us over, thanks to stunning new-ish interior design/travel blog, Designtripper. Keep your eyes peeled for touches from Post 27 like globes and bedding from Unison Home, with the full scoop on all the delish design details dropping in next issue of CS Interiors.

saturated greens

I am falling in love with green again.  And I am always a sucker for “organinzed chaos”. It creates a sharp element when a room has an overall clean and organized vibe mixed with saturated areas of interest and collections. As always, these are images pulled from my beloved vintage books, and there are elements I would change in each of these spaces. This particular one needs a better piece of art – the locomotive painting seems out of place and I would prefer the walls in light gray. I am inspired by the use of green, the wall hung bookshelves and the plaid upholstery.

patterns that are welcome these days

into my surroundings

Im loving patterns that consist of two colors and a strong graphic that hinge on a traditional style –  when mixed and matched with other patterns of similar characteristics they join forces  and create a sexy montage.

images :

1. My favorite socks, a coverlet made in my hometown and my prized possesion rug

2. Nodus rug

3. An image from an inspiring book I found on coverlets at an antique mall a few months ago

4. Rudofsky’s typewritten textiles for Olivetti… reaaarrr….

Welcome to our Blog!

Monday, December 13th, 2010

There are so many great blogs out there in this world, we can’t resist chiming in with ours, to let people into what goes on behind the scenes of our shop Post 27. Because we’re a workspace, not a just store. Ours is a place where creative types of every stripe join forces to create art, connections, design, and think in new ways about home furnishings and accessories. And this is the space where we write about everything that goes into making this business and our community so we can grow and continue making greatness happen, together.

Look for posts on topics covering our events (like the big street festival we throw every October), furniture before & after shots, the occasional house tour, DIY projects, inspiration ideas, and new products and promotions.

Contributing to the blog are Angela, the store’s lead design ninja, and graphic designer & blogger Margot Harrington. You can read more about Angela here and more about Margot here.

OUTPOST is a WordPress hosted blog, designed and coded by yours truly. Many thanks toAsif Ahmed and Justin Stahl for kindly adding to the mix during the coding & construction phase.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for coming. It sure means a lot.

good clutter = interactive environments

Sunday morning inspiration : a weekly posting of an interior from one of my many beloved vintage books.  This snowy Sunday makes me want to be in a cozy space filled with visual stimulation. This room may have a bit too much going on, but is inspirational because of the use of texture and the unconventional placement of art. Oh and you have to love a cocktail table that holds a rock collection and a brandy serving set.

A good party is always welcomed at our shop

Thanks to Mark McGinnis and his subversive alphabet series (which were a hit – how could they not be?) The show will be up until December 23rd and you can see the whole alphabet here on our website. Also thanks to our good buddies for playing some stellar funk and soul tunes,  Goose Island  for the lovely local keg of green line, and to all of our friends, who we love the most. I looked around the shop that night, filled with so many amazing people enjoying the show, drinking good beer and listening to good music, it was one of those moments where I got a little giddy about owning this great place.

murals can be cool.

Sunday morning inspiration : a weekly posting of an interior from one of my many beloved vintage books. There are significant reasons for each image I pull, always details to critique and others to draw from. Today I pulled this image for the choices of color and use of a mural, which usually makes me cringe. But this works and gets my gears moving to make one of my own. Enjoy!

good looking product and makers

Fashion is making it’s way onto our floor, and Winter Session bags and scarves arrived today – and they are stunning. Made in Chicago from reused fabrics from vintage tents, Carhart’s and waxed canvases. (Shown is the Oliver Bag lined with vintage shirting – $72.00)
