these colors make me weak in the knees.

Circa 1942 – and the proportions, materials, line qualities, and color = perfection. Loving how the repitition of the lighting makes an optical illusion of a mirrored room. (Photo : office interior and furniture by Giuseppe Pagano Pogatsching)

I want to post everyday – so here is my attempt…. and something I should do more often is preview my favorite items in the shop.

1] vintage tapestry purse – i am having a hard time leaving it here and not adding it to my collection

2] wood totems by Morlen Sinoway – the scale of these sculptural objects is so unexpected and refreshing

3] vintage crystal mugs with hand etched sailboats? need I say more?

Shades of Grey

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

Recently sprung from the 9-5 life, Attalie Dexter’s hit the ground running with her new jewelry line, Shades of Grey. With recent appearances at Refinery 29, Worskshop, and Salon Blonde, this baby is on fiiiiiire. We’ve snagged a few of Attalie’s one-offs, a handful of dramatic statement pieces and everyday heirlooms, all with rare vintage details. And, bonus, this busy gal’s agreed to an interview:

What’s your favorite piece in your collection right now?
I love the heavy ID bracelet…I wear it every day. I also loving the Pulse necklace…it seems to look great with so many styles!

What is the first thing you remember making intentionally? What was the first thing you made that you were proud of?
I used to always craft together my own little pieces of furniture for my dollhouse out of household objects. I couldn’t find the right pre-made pieces that looked right to me or fit my allowance-sized budget, so I started making my own!

I was really proud when I won the cookie contest in my girl scout troop! I won first prize in the peanut butter category!

Do you have any style icons?

I have so many! I always go back to 60s and 70s era Yves St. Laurent and his muses, also the always perfect advice of Diana Vreeland. Modern icons I am looking to lately are Lou Dillon and Nicole Simone.

Where would you rather be? A hammock in the woods or a beach-side bungalow?
Definitely the beach! I love the ocean.

Couldn’t agree more, girlfriend. Thanks for obliging us! Better get yourself some Grey, these baubles aren’t going to be around long.

sunny, warm and textural

Oh herringbone flooring mixed with perforated chairs = scrumptious. The neutral color palette is so impactful due to the attention to the detail and textures  of materials chosen.

Lapel Commercial + Backroom Sale

Friday, May 20th, 2011

Since we’ve been in party-planning mode, we’ve neglected to mention Lapel, Angela’s credenza collaboration with those cutie-pie Stone Blitzer boys. The Color Story Credenza is the first piece in the line, soon to be joined by a nightstand and other custom lovelies. And thus this little commercial shot & directed by Erik Vaughan Law.

And of course, the requisite outtake reel, always a laugh:

C’mon in and check out Lapel! But, if you need a bit more convincing, how’s this for a reason to come in: BACKROOM SALE! Last minute, this weekend only! Deals abound. Sale! Saaaaaale. You know it beckons.

sassy is the word.

a little late start for me today – so how about two hip ladies lounging around in a room of shag, books and white brick walls? Simple and clean with lots of texture, oh and a jumpsuit to boot.

Oh the orange walls mixed with the whites and the natural colors = yes, serve me up a mimosa and throw on some Serge Gainsbourg.

tree house on my mind

A huge thank you to everyone involved in this unbelievable project that is complete and previewed in this month’s Chicago Home and Garden Magazine.  From start to finish it was a rewarding feat for all.

Thanks to Tereasa Surrat (who has the most amazing energy for getting great things going) for letting us grow such an amazing thing on her property, to Shaun and Tyler of Stone Blitzer (who we pair with on the LAPEL credenza), Bladon Conner, Steven Teichielman of Threefold and many others who made this happen. Most of the materials used were salvaged, de-nailed, and re-purposed. Complete with two cozy sleeping lofts.  One lofted area doubles as a library, filled with vintage books of nature and the arts, also chosen for their colors and antique beauty – “fashion and function being equal, as it should be”. Also to be mentioned “bucket on a pully” mainly used to send up cold ones, ball jars were drilled and wired for the “firefly” lighting, and hammock below for lounging – I could live here all summer!

Inspiration = dream of something + gather people who share that dream + make it happen= amazing memories & beauty to soak in.

This is what it looked like:

This is what it felt like:

In a word: magic. Endless thanks for coming and showing your support, and even if you couldn’t stop by all the tweets and facebook likes made our night. Morlen, Steven, Heather, Evelyn and Elise all deserve major shout-outs, as does Carley Martin and the gorgeous models. Not to mention Design Bureau for the press. Really, all you guys are just the best.
