Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

Annie is here! Her workshop is set up in the northeast corner of the store and some of the frei fall line is on the floor, including this gorgeous tank made of vintage silk. Stop in the store to see the sheer back and the fabulously full Double Circle skirt. The subtle wine colors in the frei pieces pair perfectly with this vintage leather jacket from the Axis of Evelyn collection and the handwoven vintage clutch. Now you just have to choose to read or capture the world in 3D with that stereo camera.

Axis of Evelyn Wine Leather Jacket – $148

Chain & Charm Necklace – $58

yes please.

Even though this vintage image looks like a good ol’ cut and paste job, it doesn’t bother me because this space is hot. A great mixture of new meets old – with refreshing and unexpected pops of blue.  Can I sign the lease now?

bold and linear

My love of vintage books and the treasures that I find amongst their pages continues.     A few of my favorite new finds from “Design Since 1945″  – a copy I found at Ars Libris (a fantastic bookshop filled with rare and out of print art and design books) in Boston. (Where I spent hours on end and didn’t want to leave) A few beauties for sharing:

Above beauties:

1. “Faruk” fabric by Armi Ratia for Marimekko 1952

2. “Unisol” wall hanging by Rolf Middelboe for Unika-Vaev 1957

3. “Spiral” fabric by Barbara Brown for Heal 1970

Outpost Outfitted: Summer Isn’t Over

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011

Despite all the talk of fall, summer isn’t over quite yet. Naturally we are swooning over this aptly named “fairy tale” dress fresh in the shop from Evelyn. It’s clearly out of dream, which is why we paired it with this tiny vintage beaded coin purse and crystal drop earrings from Heroine Chic.  Rough it up a bit with our brand new hand-turned wood bangles by Robert Jeffries. Stack them up on both arms, twirl, and let that gauzy layer flow around you in our dwindling days of summer breeze.

Axis of Evelyn Fairy Tale Dress – $125

Robert Jeffries Wood Bangle – $65 each

Heroine Chic Crystal Drop Earrings – $80

Beaded Coin Purse – $48

Tarnished Tray – $40

Green Teapot – $28

Unison Harbor Graphite Throw (far left) – $80

Coming Soon: frei

Monday, August 22nd, 2011

Mixing up our space once again and this time we’re getting a new roommate: fashion designer Annie Novotny! It’s not often this kind of collaboration comes along, one so natural and well-suited. It’s really the ultimate marriage of style + craft for us and we could not be more excited. It’s already almost ready too! Over the last couple of weeks Annie’s been moving her clothing line, frei, out of her Pilsen studio and right into the front of our shop. (And she’s done this with a sprained ankle no less!) So now when you come by, you’ll be able to see and interact with Annie as she stitches together her delicious threads. Come celebrate with us on September 8th to welcome frei and see the unveiling of the Fall 2011 Collection, available exclusively at Post 27. And for more behind-the-scenes of the collection, hop the frei blog.

Lush greenery with a view of lush greenery

I could spend hours lounging in that hammock – reading, napping, and just gazing out the windows. The dark metal is offset and warmed up with slate, loose stones, and leaves galore. The perfect, private greenhouse escape.

Nothing short of her usual amazing self, Tereasa had the store transformed into a mini Wandawega with details galore and a million little pockets of nostalgia at every turn. That perfect late summer light drenched us in yellow, infecting all with warmth (or perhaps that was the (hiccup) punch.)

We’ve got a handful of signed copies of Tereasa’s book left but you can also snag a copy here. Photos of the night provided by t. harrison hillman.

interior check in : trump tower

we love our design clients – especially when they commission us for custom work

This project has been a dream project. Thanks to Jennifer for hiring us to polish off her clean and crisp space. The main focus of her one bedroom apartment is the view – which is one of a kind because the Trump Tower sits on a slight angle. The city becomes a subdued pattern with soothing shades of colors in contrast to the white architectural space. Inspired by the view I melded two things I love (piano player rolls and tape) to create large panels for the bedroom.I was thrilled to have the opportunity to do what I love most, designing furniture. Jennifer’s bedroom needed a small and detailed nightstand – the scale of this little piece gives it such character and dignity. More to come – round two of installations happening next week – “ghostly white” painted vintage luggage become functional sculpture.

Outpost Outfitted: Frei Sneak Peek

Wednesday, August 17th, 2011

Annie Novotny is in the process of setting up shop in Post 27! We told you it would happen and it’s almost here. Starting next week, Annie’s line, frei, will be available exclusively at Post 27, and she will be working on her creations right in our front window. Eeek! Until then, we thought you’d like a tiny taste of frei with this delicious silk crepe de chine blouse in garnet. You’ll have to stop by the store to see the corozo nut button detail up the back. We’re not even set up yet, but the whole crew was jumping to combine the vintage with Annie’s new pieces. I think the mix of these shorts (yes, that’s a built in belt and we have one other pair with more greens!), necklace, and wood handbag, all vintage finds from Angela’s New England travels, are proof that our newest comrade will fit right in.

frei Silk Crepe de Chine Blouse – $130

Vintage Striped Short – $45

Chinese Purse – $55

Brass + Wood Beaded Necklace $45

Aluminum Multi-color Glass Set – $28

Faceted Rocks by Kindling (small) – $16/ea

Matted Marble Paper – $11/ea

Look for Annie and frei next week and keep that September 8 celebration on your calendar!

new england inspiration

Monday, August 15th, 2011

A much needed vacation was due.  So I took a week off and perused the New England coast with my mom – we didn’t get very far, because we stopped at every antique mall on 1A and spent a day at Harvard and fell in love with their Natural History Museum. The colors and displays were so classic and vintage I could barely contain myself. At times I felt submerged into the set of the Life Aquatic, and wondered if Wes Anderson spent time here to get inspired? I was for sure.
